Almyros is the second largest town in Magnesia, after Volos, located 35 km from the regional capital. It is built on a fertile plain rich in cereals and tobacco. The town began to grow significantly after 1922, when many refugees from Asia Minor settled here.
During your visit to Almyros, it is worth exploring the ruins of ancient Alos, the archaeological museum which houses remarkable finds from excavations in the wider area, and the municipal library.
You can enjoy a swim at Almyros Beach, in the Tsiggeli area. Just 2 km outside the town, at Kouri, lies a unique lowland oak forest. Take a ride on the tourist train that passes through the area, featuring small lakes and bridges. Along the route, you may encounter deer, roe deer, and wild sheep.
Another point of interest is the village of Kokkotou, built at an altitude of 800 m and 27 km from Almyros. A scenic route through lush nature leads to the two monasteries of Panagia Xenia, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, whose icon, according to tradition, arrived in Pelion by sea.
Almyros offers hotels for those who choose to stay in the town, along with numerous tavernas serving local dishes and entertainment centers.
