Agios lavrentios

Agios Lavrentios is a mountain village in western Pelion, located 20 km from Volos. Built at an altitude of 600 meters, it is one of the oldest traditional Pelion villages. According to tradition, it was founded by Saint Lavrentios, after whom the village takes its name.
It is a traditional village that preserves the atmosphere of a bygone era. Agios Lavrentios is considered a living monument of Pelion architecture, featuring many restored mansions, more than 20 fountains, and one of the most remarkable networks of cobblestone paths in the region, extending over 7 km. The charming village square offers panoramic views of the Pagasetic Gulf, leaving a lasting impression on visitors.
Just outside the village lies the Byzantine Monastery of Agios Lavrentios, dating back to 1378 and founded by Saint Lavrentios, which is well worth a visit. Also notable is the Church of Saint Apostolos the New, which hosts a nationwide pilgrimage on August 15–16, attracting thousands of faithful who come to venerate the saint¢s relics.
The area is also home to a cave said to have been the residence of Chiron the Centaur.
In recent years, every August, the village hosts the “Musical Village” festival, featuring renowned artists from around the world.
