Sourpi is one of the largest villages in the Almyros region. It is located 51 kilometers from Volos and 16 kilometers from Almyros. This beautiful village also serves as the seat of the municipality of the same name.
Sourpi is famous for its many butcher taverns (meat restaurants) scattered throughout the area. If you are a meat lover, a meal at one of these taverns is a must.
At the entrance of the village stands the stone-built Church of Saint George, constructed in 1892. In the large paved village square, you will find the Church of Saint Paraskevi. A stroll through the square offers visitors a charming glimpse into village life.
In the settlement of Vryssaina, on Mount Othrys, are the Monasteries of Panagia Kato Xenia and Ano Xenia. These monasteries attract many pilgrims throughout the year, with a particular draw being the revered icon of the Virgin Mary kept at the female monastery of Panagia Xenia.
