Thermi is a picturesque traditional village located 11 km north of Mytilene. According to local tradition, the area once had around 150 towers, which is why the village was originally called Pyrgoi. Its current name comes from the thermal springs with warm waters, known since ancient times. Nearby, the ruins of a temple dedicated to Thermia Artemis have been excavated.
Among the religious monuments of the area, the Monastery of Saint Raphael stands out. It is built in a beautiful location surrounded by olive groves. The monastery houses the relics of Saints Raphael, Nicholas, and Irene, who were martyred during the Ottoman period. Every year, thousands of pilgrims from all over Greece visit the monastery. Also worth visiting are the Byzantine church of Panagia Turloti, dating between the 9th and 11th centuries, and the church of Panagia Faneromeni, decorated with murals by the famous painter Theofilos.
The area also has archaeological interest. At the Kanoni site, you can see the remains of the ancient city.
You can swim on the wonderful beaches of Thermi, Petalidi, and Chalki, all with crystal-clear waters.
Thermi is rapidly developing as a tourist destination. You will find hotels of all categories for your stay, and in the local tavernas, you can taste exquisite dishes of Lesvos cuisine.
