|
A picturesque and charming village built in a lush green location with idyllic views of the sea. It is 46 km from Mytilene and is situated on the northwestern side of the island.
The village of Sykaminea, also known as Sykamia, is the birthplace of the writer Stratis Myrivilis. During your visit, you can also see his house.
The view from the village, which is built amphitheatrically on the slopes of Mount Lepetymno, is breathtaking. The surrounding olive groves create stunning landscapes, completed by the blue brushstrokes of the Aegean Sea…
Just 3 km from the village is Skala Sykamias, with its beautiful beach and one of the most picturesque fishing harbors on the island. The area is also ideal for fishing. Perched on a rock at the entrance of the small harbor is the chapel of Panagia Gorgona, which inspired Stratis Myrivilis’ eponymous novel.
You can swim at Skala Beach and at the pebbled Káya Beach.
Although the area is not among the island’s highly developed tourist resorts, it has the necessary facilities to welcome and satisfy visitors. In Sykaminea, there are guesthouses and tavernas serving traditional cuisine.
