Molyvos is one of the most touristic areas of Lesvos. It is located 62 km northwest of the island¢s capital and is distinguished by its unparalleled natural beauty and picturesque architecture.
The landmark of the area is the imposing Byzantine castle that crowns the hill above Molyvos and serves as a major attraction for visitors.
The village houses, with their traditional architecture, many dating back to the 18th century, complement the beautiful scenery. Built from stone and wood and painted in vibrant colors, they present a charming and romantic image. The cobbled streets, pathways leading to the old neighborhoods, churches, and scenic beaches complete the fairytale-like beauty.
The history of the area stretches back centuries. Here thrived ancient Mithymna, the ruins of which can be seen close to modern Molyvos. You can view sections of the ancient city walls, remnants of an ancient temple, tombs, and later Roman-era buildings.
Among the attractions, it is worth visiting the Archaeological Museum, which houses an impressive collection of artifacts from excavations at ancient Mithymna. Also of interest are the houses where the writers Argyris Eftaliotis and Ilias Venezis lived, as well as the Turkish fountains and the baths from the past century.
The Molyvos Conference Center is housed in a restored mansion, combining the elegance of past eras with modern amenities and equipment, leaving a lasting impression.
During your stay in Molyvos, you can swim at the eponymous beach, known for its natural beauty and excellent facilities. Just 4 km from Molyvos is the stunning Eftalou beach, offering breathtaking views stretching to the coast of Asia Minor, and its crystal-clear waters are perfect for swimming. This beach is also popular with naturists and is home to the thermal springs of the same name.
Molyvos was one of the first areas in Lesvos to develop as a tourist destination, and its infrastructure is among the best. Here you will find some of the most luxurious hotel complexes and a wide selection of rental rooms.
In the local tavernas, you can enjoy the unique flavors of Lesvos cuisine, while at night, entertainment options abound. Bars playing Greek and international music, as well as live music venues, provide authentic Greek nightlife experiences…
