As its name suggests, Kalloni is an area of exceptional beauty. It is located in central Lesvos, 40 km from the capital. The region is blessed by nature, surrounded by a fertile plain of 100 sq. km and the stunning homonymous gulf that embraces the settlement, making it look like a living painting.
The history of the area is linked to the two ancient cities of Arisbe and Pyrrha. Beyond its natural charm and rich past, Kalloni is also famous for its Byzantine monuments. The Limnos Monastery is associated with an important part of the island¢s history. Built in 1523, it served as a spiritual center during the years of Ottoman rule. In its museum, you can see rare ecclesiastical relics. Another notable monastery is that of Mirsiniotissa, located in the village of Daphia.
You can swim on the golden sandy beaches of Kalloni with their turquoise waters and admire the wetlands of the area.
In the local tavernas, you will also taste the famous Kalloni sardines. The seaport of the area is Skala Kalloni, which is also one of the island¢s most developed tourist resorts.
