Eresos is one of the most developed tourist resorts on Lesvos. It is located on the southwestern side of the island, 89 km from Mytilene. The rich vegetation, volcanic landscape, picturesque village with beautiful houses, and the significant historical monuments in the area make it an ideal place for both accommodation and exploration.
The port of Eresos is Skala Beach, which has been awarded the Blue Flag and attracts thousands of visitors each year.
The area of Eresos has been inhabited since ancient times and boasts a rich historical heritage. One of the most important attractions is the Acropolis of the ancient city, built on a hill near Skala Beach. Excavations in the wider archaeological site have revealed significant findings, many of which are displayed in the Archaeological Museum.
Eresos is also the birthplace of Sappho, the great lyric poet of antiquity, as well as philosophers Theophrastus and Phanias.
Be sure to visit the churches of Agios Konstantinos, Panagia, and Agia Irini, which features an elaborate wooden carved iconostasis.
For accommodation, you will find hotels and complexes of all categories. Opportunities for entertainment are plentiful, and you can also attend the local festivals celebrating the Feast of the Savior (August 6) and the Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary on August 15.
