A traditional village located along the road from Agios Nikolaos to Ierapetra, built around a hill with breathtaking views.
The village was once the seat of the Ierapetra Bishopric, from which it takes its name. Visitors will enjoy a nostalgic stroll through its narrow streets, lined with well-preserved historic houses, and can relax with a coffee at the charming village square under centuries-old plane trees.
Among the village¢s notable landmarks is the Koulés Tower, built in 1868 by Hussein Auni Pasha.
In the heart of the village stands the Church of Panagia Eftatrulis, founded in 1900, a stone basilica with a dome. Equally impressive is the Church of Saints George and Charalambos, dating back to the 11th century. Remarkably, this church was constructed using river stones and a mixture of coarse sand, lime, and volcanic soil.
