Psathopyrgos
 |
The stunning Psathopirgos Beach is administratively part of the Rio Municipality. In the past, the area was well-known for its abundant fish catches. Today, it has developed into a popular tourist destination, attracting visitors from the wider region with its beautiful golden sandy beach.
As for the origin of its name, local tradition attributes it to a straw tower that once stood there, serving as a shelter for fishing boats and fishermen. Another version suggests that the area was home to a fortress (wall) dedicated to Athena.
