Tsivlou lake

Lake Tsivlou is a true gem of the Achaia region. Nestled in a stunning and idyllic location at an altitude of 800 meters, it lies very close to the Chelmos ski center. The lake is just 10 km from the picturesque village of Zarouchla and 28 km from the beautiful coastal town of Akrata.
The enchanting Lake Tsivlou is a creation of nature. It was formed after a landslide in 1913 that caused the disappearance of two villages. The displaced earth blocked the Krathis River, creating two lakes. Over time, one of the lakes dried up, leaving only Lake Tsivlou, named after the village that once stood there.
The lake covers an area of 200 acres and reaches a depth of 80 meters, with the ruins of the sunken village still lying at its bottom. The surrounding area is a natural landscape of extraordinary beauty. Today, Lake Tsivlou is an important wetland in Achaia, hosting a rich variety of flora and fauna. Its waters are crystal-clear with a distinctive deep-blue hue.
The slopes of Mount Tsivlos surrounding the lake are densely forested with pines, creating a unique landscape. Remarkably, these pine forests survived the destructive fires that have affected other areas. In recent years, the lake has also developed into a popular recreational destination, attracting visitors who wish to enjoy its serene beauty.
