Anavryti

The village of Anavryti, also known as Vryseai, is built at an altitude of 850 meters, perched on the slopes of Mount Taygetus.
This picturesque settlement is located in a stunning area, characterized by constantly changing landscapes that captivate every visitor¢s gaze.
The modern village stands on the same site as the ancient Mycenaean settlement, from which it retained its old name, Vryseai. It was an important center of the region and later became the capital of the former Municipality of Vryseai. Its name derives from the many fountains still present today, as well as the natural springs that flow through the surrounding area.
Anavryti is an ideal destination for visitors seeking peace and relaxation in a breathtaking environment.
During your stay, you will encounter numerous Byzantine and post-Byzantine churches, such as those of Saint Nicholas, Saints Theodoroi, the cave-like Monastery of Zoodochos Pigi (Zagouna), the Holy Monastery of Faneromeni, and the Holy Monastery of Saint Demetrios, which also served as a religious seminary.
Near the entrance of the village, you will find the building of the Primary School, which houses two new museums: the Botanical and the Geological Museum. These museums focus on the flora of Mount Taygetus and the rocks that make up the region, while also providing fascinating insights into these two sciences through rare exhibits and detailed information.
