Skala
 |
Skala is located near the center of the Laconia region, approximately 38 km from Sparta. It is the seat of the eponymous municipality, which consists of eight municipal units: Skala, Stefaniá, Leímonas, Peristéri, the two settlements Filísi and Agios Georgios, Grámmousa, and Vrontamá.
The area has strong potential for tourism development due to its privileged geographical location and easy access to all major areas of the region and its attractions.
It is worth noting that the wider area of the municipality is considered one of the most fertile regions in the entire prefecture, as the plain is crossed by two rivers: the historic Eurotas and the valuable Vasilopotamos.
The economy of Skala, and the municipality in general, is primarily based on agriculture. The main crops are citrus fruits, with the Valencia orange variety being the most prominent.
The Municipality of Skala is the main producer of Valencia oranges in Greece, as well as greenhouse and open-field vegetables, olive oil and table olives, and wine.
