Kosmas
 |
The village of Kosmas is located on the road that connects Arcadia with Laconia, 32 km from Leonidio. More specifically, it is the last village of Arcadia on the route toward Laconia.
It is built on the southeastern slopes of Mount Parnon at an altitude of 1,150 meters, in a location blessed with exceptional natural beauty. This charming village is surrounded by magnificent fir forests and captivates visitors with its traditional architecture.
The route from Leonidio to the village of Kosmas is truly captivating, as it passes through landscapes of outstanding beauty. The road first crosses the impressive gorge of the Dafnonas River, where you will encounter the Monastery of Panagia Elona, dating back to the 16th century. It then ascends Mount Parnon, leading into a stunning fir forest.
Equally fascinating is the route to the nearby beautiful plateau of Mount Parnon, on the border with Laconia. Both routes—from Leonidio to Kosmas and from Kosmas to the Parnon plateau—are considered among the most beautiful mountain drives in the Peloponnese.
The heart of the village beats in its central square, which is characterized by the enormous plane trees surrounding it. According to local tradition, they were planted in 1883. Around the square, traditional cafés and tavernas are in operation.
At the center of the square stands the Church of Agioi Anargyroi (Saints Cosmas and Damian).
The houses of the village are stone-built and follow the local traditional architectural style.
In Kosmas, there are also rooms to let, offering comfortable accommodation in a peaceful and tranquil environment.
