Another beautiful village of Arcadia is Tyros. Combining both mountain and sea, it is an ideal destination for all types of travelers. Tyros is located 75 km from Tripoli and 21 km from Astros, built on the slopes of Mount Parnon in a lush green setting. It is considered one of the most notable seaside resorts in Arcadia.
The area includes three settlements: Ano Tyros, a mountain village perched on the slopes of Parnon; Kato Tyros, located slightly below Ano Tyros; and Paralia Tyrou, the coastal settlement that serves as Tyros¢ seaside port.
In recent years, Paralia Tyrou has developed into a prominent summer resort. It offers a variety of accommodations, including hotels and guesthouses, as well as taverns and entertainment venues. The village lies in a verdant area along a small bay and stretches next to a large, beautiful beach, considered one of the finest in the Peloponnese.
Regarding the name of the area, it has remained the same since ancient times. It is said to originate from the god Apollo Tyrites or Tyritas, who was worshiped in the region in antiquity. Apollo Tyrites was regarded as the protector of milk and cheese production. Today, remnants of his sanctuary can still be seen near the village of Pera Melana.
