Papingo
 |
The traditional village of Papigo is located 59 km northeast of Ioannina.
It is one of the 46 villages that make up the settlement, cultural, and historical region of Zagori.
Like all the Zagori villages, Papigo impresses visitors with its natural beauty and distinctive Epirus architecture.
Papigo consists of two settlements: Megalo Papigo, built at an altitude of 900 m, and Mikro Papigo, built at 980 m, approximately 2 km apart. These two traditional settlements stretch along the slopes of Astraka Peak in the Tymfi (or Gamila) mountain, beneath the imposing towers and the legendary Dragon Lake. The entire area is dominated by the Tymfi (Gamila) mountain range, which forms the Aoos Gorge to the north and the Vikos Gorge with the Voidomatis River to the southwest.
Papigo is renowned for the exemplary hospitality of its residents and its unique way of preserving the spatial and cultural organization of the local community.
