Monodendri
 |
Monodendri is one of the most beautiful villages in Central Zagori. Situated at an altitude of 1,060 meters, it offers breathtaking views of the Tymfi and Astraka slopes.
As you wander through Monodendri, you will notice the strong presence of traditional architecture in every building. The characteristic stone-paved streets, old mansions, and stone houses bring the village¢s rich history to life. In the village square, the Church of Saint Athanasios and the post-Byzantine chapel of Saint Minas stand as prominent landmarks.
It is worth visiting the stone towers at Oksia, which offer stunning views of the Aoos Gorge, the Monastery of Saint Paraskevi, and the archaeological site at Genitsari. Monodendri is also the starting point for an excursion to the Vikos Gorge. At the edge of the village, a trail leads into the gorge—a unique experience for every nature enthusiast. Although traversing the gorge takes approximately five hours, the extraordinary landscapes and rare flora and fauna along the way make the journey unforgettable and reward your adventurous spirit.
