The village of Laista is located 80 km from Ioannina and is built on the slope of "Klefti" hill at an altitude of 1,020 meters. It is the third largest village of the Tymfi municipality and the most remote. The settlement is literally hidden within a dense forested area.
During the 18th and 19th centuries, Laista was the only town in Zagori. However, it suffered complete destruction during the German Occupation.
Today, the village is on a continuous path of development. It offers excellent services to visitors, with traditional guesthouses providing comfortable accommodation and restaurants, while the stunning natural surroundings fill travelers with breathtaking views of the Epirus countryside.
Visitors to Laista, in addition to exploring its beautiful forests, should also visit the village¢s historic churches, such as the central Church of the Archangels, dating back to 1770, the Church of Saint George, where Kosmas of Aetolia taught in 1778, and the Church of the Holy Trinity in the ruined Old Village of Laista, which served as the katholikon of the historic monastery of the same name.
