The prefecture of Ioannina, apart from its highly significant historical route – aspects of which are reflected in the notable historical monuments of the city and its surroundings – also has many natural beauties to showcase.
The Zagorochoria are considered – and rightly so – the crown jewel of the prefecture. These are a total of 46 villages perched on the mountains northeast of Ioannina, which impress the visitors of Epirus as they uniquely combine natural beauty with traditional architecture, creating a fairytale-like image.

Zagorochoria cover an area of 1.000 sq. km and are divided into three geographical parts: the Western, the Eastern and the Central Zagori.
