The prefecture of Ioannina, apart from its highly significant historical route – aspects of which are reflected in the notable historical monuments of the city and its surroundings – also has many natural beauties to showcase. The Zagorochoria are considered – and rightly so – the crown jewel of the prefecture. These are a total of 46 villages perched on the mountains northeast of Ioannina, which impress the visitors of Epirus as they uniquely combine natural beauty with traditional architecture, creating a fairytale-like image. Each of these villages stands out for its wonderful architecture and the warm hospitality of its inhabitants. Zagorochoria cover an area of 1.000 sq. km and are divided into three geographical parts: the Western, the Eastern and the Central Zagori.
