Syntagma
 |
Syntagma Square is one of the two main central squares of Athens (the other being Omonia Square). Commonly referred to simply as “Syntagma” by Athenians, the area around the square represents the heart of the city. Here stands the Hellenic Parliament, and from this point start some of the city¢s most important streets, including Amalias Avenue, Vasilissis Sofias Avenue, Panepistimiou Street, Stadiou Street, Ermou Street, Mitropoleos Street, and more. Nearby, visitors can also see the National Garden, the Zappeion, and the Athens Metropolitan Cathedral. Syntagma serves as a key hub for both residents and tourists traveling to many parts of the capital.
The square has been renovated many times. In recent years, especially during the construction of the metro, it was transformed into a massive construction site. Today, it is one of the busiest stations and undoubtedly one of the most beautiful, adorned with works by renowned Greek artists.
