Maleme
Another historic village of Chania, Maleme is located 17 km west of the city and is renowned for the heroic actions of its residents during the historic Battle of Crete. In 1941, the villagers bravely confronted the German paratroopers. The German military cemetery in the village serves as a reminder of the Cretans¢ great resistance. Today, Maleme has developed as a tourist destination, attracting thousands of visitors each year, and it features a beautiful sandy beach.
