The village of Mournies is the birthplace of Eleftherios Venizelos, and for that reason alone, it is worth a visit. It is only 4 km from the city, and the journey is pleasant. Here, you can see the family home of Eleftherios Venizelos and visit the Byzantine monasteries of Chryssopigi and Agios Eleftherios, dating from the 15th and 17th centuries, respectively.
