The village of Kotronas is the largest seaside village in eastern Mani. It is located south of Sparta, 87 km away, and 41 km from Gytheio. It serves as the seat of the Municipality of East Mani, the southernmost part of mainland Greece. To the west, it borders the municipality of Oitylo, while to the east it meets the Laconian Gulf. To the north, it borders the municipality of Gytheio, and to the south it extends to Cape Tainaro.
The settlement of Kotronas lies on the bay of Kolokythia. Built at the innermost part of the tranquil bay and sheltered from northern winds, it is renowned for its beautiful beaches and traditional architecture.
While exploring the area, you will notice many small harbors with sandy or pebbly shores. This allows you to choose your preferred spot for swimming and enjoying carefree hours by the sea.
According to tradition, its name reflects the rugged morphology of the terrain. Sharp rocks and stones create a dry and arid landscape, dotted with stone houses of traditional Maniot architecture—a scene characteristic of the Mani region.
