Ano Syros or Epano Chora, as the locals call it, is the only neighborhood of Syros that keeps unalterable her medieval feature.

Ano Syros is built amfitheatrically on the hill, left of Ermoupolis. It was built during the 13th century by Venetians. In the same spot was a settlement dated from the 8th century,
The view from the hill of Ano Syros is magnificent. It is worth climbing the 1000 stairs leading to the top of the hill. Saint George’s church is there.
