The seaside village of Kolymbari is located 24 km west of Chania. Its tourist infrastructure is well-developed and continues to grow each year. Visitors can choose to stay in hotels or rental accommodations and enjoy meals at tavernas and traditional ouzeris, savoring authentic Cretan cuisine.
Kolymbari is renowned for its stunning beach, where clear waters and an endless golden sandy shore create a picturesque setting. On the northern side of the village lies the Monastery of Gonia, officially known as the Stavropigial Monastery of Odigitria, founded in 1618. It houses an impressive collection of post-Byzantine icons and other religious artifacts.
From Kolymbari, you can take a boat to the Rodopou Peninsula to explore the ruins of the ancient city of Diktina, as well as the Temple of the Goddess Artemis, which dates back to the 2nd century BC.
