Vouliagmeni is one of the most beautiful seaside suburbs of Athens. It is located 25 km from the city center and is washed by the waters of the Saronic Gulf.
Surrounded by pine-covered hills that lead to stunning sandy beaches with crystal-clear waters, Vouliagmeni enchants Athenians and attracts visitors from the capital.
According to historical sources, the area has been inhabited since ancient times. It is identified with the ancient municipality of Aixônidôn Alôn. Today, it is one of Athens� most prestigious neighborhoods. Many villas and luxurious apartment buildings have been built in the area, giving it a distinctive elegance. On the other hand, the presence of the eponymous lake and the lush greenery surrounding it create a beautiful countryside scene reminiscent of an island or a village, making you forget that you are still in the city.
The gem of Vouliagmeni is the famous lake of the same name, known for its therapeutic sulfurous waters. A notable feature is that its waters are salty and always 6 to 7 degrees warmer than the sea, with which it is connected underground.
The lake�s bottom is of particular interest. It has many underwater caves, where unfortunately many divers have lost their lives. For this reason, diving in the lake is now prohibited.
Around Vouliagmeni Lake, restaurants and cafés operate, offering beautiful views.
You can also swim at the organized EOT beach of Vouliagmeni, which is equipped for water sports. A special suggestion is the Astir Beach, frequented by many well-known Athenians. Here, you will have the opportunity to swim “in the company” of popular Greek artists and entrepreneurs who spend their holidays at the luxurious hotel complexes in the area.
