Syvota is an emerging coastal tourist destination in Thesprotia. Thanks to its privileged geographic location, it is an ideal starting point for travelers eager to explore the natural beauty of Epirus.
Located in the southwestern part of Thesprotia, Syvota lies 25 km from Igoumenitsa. The village is built around a marine bay where small islets form a fjord-like scenery, creating a truly unique landscape.
Beyond its unparalleled natural beauty, Syvota also boasts a remarkable historical background. The area has been inhabited since ancient times, and in 433 B.C., the famous naval battle of Syvota took place along its shores between the Corcyraeans and the Corinthians. Additionally, the two lush green islets at the entrance of Mourtos Bay are mentioned by Thucydides in his history of the Peloponnesian War as the islands of Syvota. According to local tradition, Mourtos Bay was named after a pirate who had used it as his stronghold.
The charming village of Syvota is administratively part of the Syvota Municipality, which was formed by merging the communities of Plataria, Skorpiona, Argyrotopos, Faskomilia, and Polyneri. What sets Syvota apart is the stunning combination of the green mountains with the deep blue of the sea.
Syvota is surrounded by beautiful beaches. The most popular and cosmopolitan include Mega Ammos, Mikro Mega Ammos, Zavia, Piscina, Gallikos Molos, and Zeri. On the islet of Mourtemeno, the beach of Bella Vraka stands out for its unique beauty, as a sandbar connects the island to the mainland. During the summer months, the small port of Syvota is lively with boats, yachts, and luxury vessels.
Syvota offers a wide range of accommodations, including hotel complexes with modern tourist facilities, rental rooms, numerous tourist lodgings, and organized camping sites that operate during the summer season, making it a perfect destination for a seaside getaway.
