Filippiada is a beautiful town in the Preveza region, located 43 km from Preveza itself. It occupies a strategic position at the crossroads of the Preveza, Arta, and Ioannina prefectures.
Known as the "town of storks," Filippiada welcomes these elegant birds every March, and they remain until mid-August. Their presence and breeding in the area are linked to the warm hospitality of the locals, who consider storks a symbol of the town.
Filippiada is also historically significant, as it corresponds to the ancient city of Charadrus, which flourished in the 7th and 8th centuries BC. Ruins of this ancient city can still be seen at the site of Kastri.
Surrounded by fertile plains, the town has a long tradition of agriculture and animal husbandry. In recent years, large livestock processing units and breeding farms have been established, boosting the local economy and development of the wider region.
In the Filippiada area, visitors can enjoy numerous traditional taverns offering local flavors. Highlights include grilled lamb, boiled goat, slow-cooked kid, eels from the Ambracian Gulf, and trout from the Louros River, all complemented by traditional Tsipouro.
