Karpenisi (or Karpenissi), the capital of Evritania, is one of the most beautiful and clean regions in Greece.
According to the international research of UNESCO, Evritania is one of the five cleanest regions in the world, with almost null pollution. The sanitary conditions, the alterations of scenery and the options for entertainment and activities, make Karpenissi the ideal travel destination all year around.
Karpenissi is built on the southwest slopes of Velouhi at an altitude of 960m. It is the only urban area of the prefecture. It is 295 km away from Athens.

During your tour around Karpenissi you will see the picturesque square that will take you back to past times. It is worth visiting the church of Trinity with impressive Byzantine and post – Byzantine icons. In Kefalovrisso you will have the chance to see the statue erected for Markos Botsaris, the hero of the Greek Revolution of 1821. This region is really exquisite with overgrown areas and running waters. In a close walking distance you will find a trout hatchery and numerous traditional taverns with local recipes.
It is worth taking a walk around the hill of Agios Dimitrios and relish the view down to Karpenissi and Velouhi.
There is also an organized ski centre, located at Velouhi Mountain 11 km from the town.
