The islet of Chrissi, more commonly known as Gaidouronisi, is located 8.5 miles south of Ierapetra. Access is by boat from the port of Ierapetra.
It is an islet with an exotic character, featuring golden sandy beaches and greenish-golden cedar trees, creating a landscape of indescribable beauty. It is one of the few areas in Greece where a forest of the rare Juniper cedar variety can be found. For this reason, the island¢s ecosystem has been included in the NATURA 2000 Network for protection.
The islet also contains traces of Minoan civilization, such as the villa complex and the partially submerged harbor pier.
To the east of Chrissi lies another small islet, Mikronisi, notable for its sea caves which serve as a refuge for seals.
