The Peloponnese is the southernmost and largest peninsula of Greece. It is one of the nine geographical departments of the country and a region of it.
It occupies the southern continental part of the country. It is connected to Central Greece by a narrow strip of land, the Isthmus of Corinth, in which the homonymous canal was constructed in 1893, thus transforming the Peloponnese into an island.
One of the most important projects of recent years is the Rio-Antirio bridge, which connects the Peloponnese with mainland Greece.

The Peloponnese is administratively divided into seven prefectures (Argolis, Corinth, Achaia, Arcadia, Messinia, Laconia, Ilia). Each of them has a rich historical history that dates back to prehistoric times, while all of them have unique natural beauties and incredible changes in landscapes. Stunning beaches, idyllic bays, lush forests, imposing mountains, plains and plains. The tour of the Peloponnese is a thrilling experience that leaves indelible memories for every traveler.

The main gulfs of the Peloponnese are: the Argolic Gulf in the east, the Laconian and Messinian Gulfs in the south and the Kyparissia Gulf in the west. Smaller gulfs are the Corinthian Gulf, the Patraikos Gulf and the Gulf of Gastouni.
The most important capes are Rio, near Patras, Araxos, Kyllini in the NW., Katakolo in the west, Akritas, Tainaro and Maleas in the south and Skylaio on the Argolida peninsula.
Larger peninsulas are those of Argolida and Epidaurus in the east, Limera, Mani in the south and Pylia in the southwest.
The terrain of the Peloponnese is mountainous, for the most part, mainly in the center, where plateaus abound. On the contrary, there are, near the coasts, large plains, such as those of Ilia, Messinia, Argos, Achaia, Triphylia and Corinth.

The large cities of the Peloponnese as well as the historic villages of each prefecture fill every traveler with unique images, while the choices of activities they provide satisfy everyone's needs.
Nafplio, Argos, Epidaurus, Mycenae, Corinth, Loutraki, Xylokastro, Kiato, Tripoli, Dimitsana, Vytina, Astros, Kalamata, Methoni, Koroni, Gythio, Sparta, Monemvasia, Elafonisos, Pyrgos, Amaliada, Katakolo, Patras, Kalavryta, Akrata, Diakofto, are some of the cities and famous tourist resorts of the Peloponnese that are stops on every traveler's itinerary.
Just hearing these names, images flood our eyes. Archaeological sites, historical monuments, natural attractions of all kinds begin to pass before our eyes like a movie.

The Peloponnese is the historical cradle of Hellenism and has been inhabited since prehistoric times. The famous Mycenaean civilization developed in its lands and was inhabited by the three main Greek tribes. The Achaeans, the Ionians and the Dorians.
In the Peloponnese, the most important Greek city-states flourished during ancient times. Sparta, Argos, Corinth, etc. and many historical battles and military conflicts took place here that determined the course and development of Greece. Such as the Peloponnesian War in ancient times and the Greek Revolution of 1821. Also, we must mention that the Peloponnese, like the entire territory, experienced many conquerors. Like the Romans, Franks and Ottomans.

The Peloponnese is undoubtedly a vital region of the country. Its economy was traditionally based almost exclusively on agriculture and livestock. Industry was mainly present in the areas of Patras and Aigio, which were the most active from an economic point of view (machine shops, cotton mills, paper, wine, tire factories, olive oil mills, raisin factories).
As for the agricultural products it produces, the cultivation of cereals, vineyards (for raisins and wine), figs, olives, rice, cotton prevails. Tobacco, potatoes, vegetables and several citrus fruits are also cultivated. Livestock farming is quite developed in many of its areas. In recent decades, many cities and coastal and mountainous areas of the Peloponnese have invested in tourism. Their excellent infrastructure, combined with the abundance of options that each tourist resort in the Peloponnese offers to visitors to the region, are a guarantee for unforgettable holidays at all times of the year. So, plan your trip to the Peloponnese and indulge in its charm.
