One of the biggest festivals in summer is the celebration of Alonaris. It is organized at the end of July, in Gournas’ beach, close to the traditional thresh in the region.
At that night is done the revival of threshing. At first spikes are put in a threshing machine carried by a horse. As soon as the revival finishes, dances and songs begin. Alonaris and his family start to dance first. Then everyone dances. Traditional appetizers and wine are offered to everyone.
The feast of Panagia is the most important and biggest organized in the island. Panagia of Kastro was the religious center for Leros’ age long history.
