Paternò lies on the western edge of the fertile plain surrounding Mount Etna, just inland from Catania. The town is shaped by this proximity to the volcano, with its landscape defined by dark volcanic soil, cultivated fields, and the constant, distant presence of Etna rising over the horizon.
At its center stands the Norman Castle of Paternò, a stark, rectangular tower built from lava stone that dominates the skyline.
