The region of Thrace constitutes the eastern border of our country. It is a historical and geographical region with a long history.
It constitutes a charming challenge for every traveler, as it has unique beauties and special cultural elements, which combine the marriage of east and west.
It is located between the Nestos River to the west of Mount Aemos, to the north of the Black Sea, to the east and south of the Bosphorus of the Propontis, the Hellespont and the Thracian Sea.
The region of Thrace is currently divided between Turkey, which occupies its eastern part, Greece, which occupies western Thrace and Bulgaria, which occupies northern Thrace, which is called Eastern Rumelia.
Greek Thrace is a geographical region of Greece and is administratively part of the region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace.
It borders Turkey (the so-called Eastern Thrace) to the east, Bulgaria to the north and Macedonia to the west, specifically the prefectures of Kavala and Drama.
Thrace is divided into the prefectures of Evros, Xanthi and Rodopi. The island of Samothrace also belongs to Thrace administratively, which is a separate province of the prefecture of Evros.
Economically, Thrace is an agricultural region. It mainly cultivates cereals and tobacco, which are world-famous and constitute one of the most important sources of wealth in Greece. It has a remarkable livestock industry and its forest wealth is well exploited.
