The town of Methana, which is also the seat of the municipality of the same name, is distinguished by the picturesque beauty of its settlement, its traditional architecture, and its charming fishing harbor that captivates every visitor. A stroll through the streets of the town will reveal images of both the past and the present.
A special jewel of Methana is the small, lush islet of Agioi Anargyroi, located at the entrance of the harbor. There, you will also find the church of Agioi Anargyroi.
Methana boasts many important landmarks, both natural and historical. Specifically, during your visit you will see: the ruins of the Acropolis wall of Ancient Methana, dating back to the 4th century B.C. In the same area, namely in the village of Vathy, stands the impressive gate constructed from volcanic rock.
It is worth visiting the abandoned village of Kameni Chora and seeing the largest volcanic crater among the 30 that exist across Methana.
In the villages of Kypseli, Kounoupitsa, and Megalochori, you can admire the traditional architecture and the small Byzantine churches.
Among the beaches of Methana, the ones of Agios Nikolaos and Agioi Theodoroi are highly recommended. A distinctive feature of these beaches is that the thermal mineral waters spring from there. Other popular beaches include the organized EOT beach near the port, Limiona, Paleokastro, Kounoupitsa, and Almyra, from which you can access the Pigeons¢ Cave. The cave is located in the Steno area and was accidentally discovered in 1973 by a group of locals. It is 250 meters long and consists of three chambers.
