GREECE / EPIRUS / ARTA / ATHAMANIO
Athamanio
In the northern part of the Arta region, beneath the imposing mountain range of the Southern Pindus, with its ancient mythical name Athamanika Mountains, also known as the proud Tzoumerka, and nestled between two powerful rivers—the Acheloos to the east and the Arachthos to the west—lies the village of Athamanio. The artificial lake of Pournari, located close to the village, completes the scenery, bringing life and energy to the wider area.

Visitors to the region are embraced by the mountain air, captivated by the vivid colors and fragrances generously offered by the seasons, enchanted by the abundant pure waters of the rivers and springs, mesmerized by the unique, mystical beauty of the lake, charmed by the majestic mountain peaks, fascinated by the scattered Byzantine monuments, and transported through all their senses.

Athamanio is built amphitheatrically on the slopes of the Tzoumerka (Athamanika Mountains): the peak above the village reaches an altitude of 2,393 meters. The village center is at 756 meters above sea level, but due to the terrain¢s morphology, it extends from 620 meters to 1,042 meters. It is located 64 kilometers from the regional capital, Arta—approximately a 50-minute drive via the new Arta-Trikala road axis—and 114 kilometers from Trikala. Geographically, it lies in the eastern Tzoumerka region, 27 kilometers from the Acheloos River, which forms the natural boundary with the Trikala region.
