About Poros
Poros, this lush and beautiful island, is located in the southwestern part of the Saronic Gulf and directly opposite the coasts of the Peloponnese.
Its name means passage and is not coincidental, as the island almost connects the Saronic with the Peloponnesian coasts. A narrow strait separates the port of Poros from Galata, which is located on the southeastern coast of the Argolis prefecture.
It is an island that impresses its visitors with its inexhaustible natural beauty. The marine landscapes, with the turquoise sea, the beautiful beaches and the rocky shores meet the green of the pine trees that grow on the coast, creating enchanting images. And while the sea salt mixes with the fragrant air that arrives from the unique Lemon Forest, every visitor feels overwhelmed by the irresistible charm of this unique island.
Poros, ancient Calauria, was the island of Poseidon. In the 7th century BC, it became the seat of the Amphictyony, the alliance, between seven cities of the wider area. It participated in the Revolution of 1821, while in 1830 the first Greek naval base was established in Poros.
Thanks to its geographical position, Poros is a resort town for every season of the year. It offers relaxation and tranquility, without lacking opportunities for entertainment. It combines urban life with traditional elements. It is a place that anyone who has known it, longs to return to. And anyone who has not yet visited it, sees it in their dreams. Plan your vacations in Poros and get to know the earthly paradise...
