The natural environment surrounding the village consists of coniferous forests, olive groves, citrus trees, and extensive cultivated land, as the character of the village is purely agricultural. In this environment, as in the whole of Southern Rhodes, there is a rich variety of flora and fauna.
Despite the fact that the village is located inland, one can reach a wonderful coastline with unique beaches within just a few kilometers.
The rural roads are particularly interesting for hiking. Visitors can follow the routes towards Arnitha and Mesanagros, climbing the hills, or walk to the Monastery of Skiadeni and to Agios Georgios Kalamos.
The beach near Apolakkia, stretching along the west coast, is an area of exceptional natural beauty and an important habitat. This coastal area, known as the "Apolakkia Bay," is protected by the European "NATURA 2000" Network and consists of an ecosystem of sand dunes and shrubby wild juniper (Juniperus oxycedrus).
Another feature of scientific interest in the area is the presence of the sea turtle Caretta caretta and the monk seal Monachus monachus, both of which have been observed along the coast.
Other beaches in the same area, sharing similar natural characteristics, are "Limni," "Fourni," and "Kouloura."
