The Tower of Belenis is located in Alinda, Leros, and stands as one of the most impressive and historic buildings on the island. It was built in 1925 by Parisis Belenis, a wealthy benefactor and member of the Greek diaspora in Egypt. Its architectural style is unique, blending neoclassical elements with medieval castle features, making it stand out due to its two double towers.
In 1930, the owner donated the building to the community of Leros. During World War II, the tower was utilized by the Italians as a military hospital, and it later came under the control of both German and British forces.
Today, the Tower of Belenis has been fully restored and houses the Historical and Folklore Museum of the island. Its rooms feature displays of old photographs, traditional costumes, period furniture, and significant artifacts from the Battle of Leros, including items recovered from the sunken destroyer "Vasilissa Olga."
