Pythagorio

One of the most famous tourist resorts of Samos. A place with history that is lost in the depths of centuries. Here you will see some of the most outstanding monuments of the island. However besides its brilliant past, Pythagorio is also a modern town.

The beautiful village during the summer months is visited by thousands visitors. Pythagorio is found in the southern part of the island, in distance of 13 km from the capital, Samos Town.

It is believed that is built on the ruins of ancient Samos and concretely in the place that was found the ancient harbour that which was manufactured by Polykratis. The region is shown a great archaeological interest. In distance of 8 km from the village is found the eminent temple of Heraion. The goddess Hera was worshipped by the ancient inhabitants. Moreover during your tour in Pythagorio you will see the Eupalinos Tunnel, the Ancient Aqueduct that is dated by the 6th B.D. century.
Other important monuments that deserve your attention are the relic of the Polykratis Walls, the Roman Baths, the Logothetis Tower and the Monastery of Spilianis, built in a cave.

In Pythagorio you will enjoy swimming in the splendid beaches of the region. Many distinguished beaches are Pythagorio, Alyki, Psili Ammos, Potokaki and Heraion.
In Pythagorio are operating a lot of restaurants, taverns, café and bars which offer some of the traditional hospitality. If you visit the island during June, you will watch the annual festival of fishermen. It is one of the bigger feasts of Pythagorio. Dancing groups, orchestras, abundant wine and sea food create all the conditions for an unforgettable big time celebration made in Samos!
