Mati
About Mati
Mati is a coastal settlement located in the eastern part of the Attica region, along the Saronic Gulf, near Nea Makri. It is known for its seaside residential character and pine-covered surroundings.
The area features small coves, rocky and pebbled beaches, and dense coastal vegetation. Mati has historically been a quiet holiday and residential destination, with many summer homes and tourist accommodations.
In recent years, Mati has become widely known due to the devastating wildfire of 2018, which significantly impacted the community and its environment. Since then, reconstruction and regeneration efforts have been ongoing.
Today, Mati remains a coastal residential area with natural beauty and a strong sense of recovery and rebuilding, attracting visitors for its seaside location and proximity to Athens.
