Macedonia

Macedonia is a geographical and historical region of Greece with a very rich history that is lost in the depths of centuries. Macedonia is one of the geographical regions of mainland Greece. It is the southern and largest part of the wider geographical and historical region of Macedonia. It is located between the Pindos mountain range and the Nestos River and is the northern geographical and historical region, the second largest in population and the largest in area of the Greek territory. It borders Skopje (FYROM) and Bulgaria to the north, Thessaly and the Aegean Sea to the south, Western Thrace to the east and Epirus and Albania to the west.

More specifically, Macedonia is divided into the region of Central Macedonia, which consists of the prefectures of Thessaloniki, Halkidiki, Pella, Imathia, Pieria, Serres and Kilkis. The region of Western Macedonia is located in the northwestern part of Greece and borders Albania and FYROM. It consists of the Prefectures of Kozani, Grevena, Kastoria and Florina.
Western Macedonia is a predominantly mountainous region with 82% of its territory covered by mountainous and semi-mountainous areas. It is ideal for touring as it has unparalleled natural beauty, remarkable cities, picturesque villages and many entertainment and activity options.

The prefectures of Drama, Kavala and Thassos administratively belong to the region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace. Here too you will encounter breathtaking landscapes, both mountainous and sea, and you will get to know the beauties of northern Greece.
