On top of this hill remain the ruins of a Venetian castle that was once the island’s administrative center. Pirgos is a typical example of medieval architecture with narrow, labyrinthine streets, fortified walls and hidden passages,ideal for a quick stop at the central square of the village for marvelous pictures.

It’s the highest spot of the island. From its top – at about 2000 feet (600 m) – you will enjoy the panoramic view over entire island and the Aegean sea. The Monastery was built in the 18th century and has an important collection of icons and artefacts of the Greek Orthodox religion.
