The first visit will be to the Beth Shalom Synagogue, the principal synagogue of Athens, where an experienced guide provided by the synagogue will explain the Jewish history.. The Synagogue built in 1935, this stunning architectural gem stands proudly in austere Greek revival style. Learn about its historical significance and the role it plays in the Jewish community today. Managed by Rabbi Gabriel Negrin, it continues to be a place of worship and community gatherings. Etz Chaim Synagogue, located right across from Beth Shalom. This synagogue, built in 1904 by Greek Romaniote Jews, carries a deep cultural significance. Despite facing damage from the 1999 earthquake, it underwent extensive renovations and stands as a testament to resilience. Please note: The Jewish Museum of Athens is currently under reconstruction. During this period, the tour will include a visit to the Ancient Agora instead. At the Ancient Agora of Athens, travelers will explore one of the most important archaeological sites of Ancient Greece, once the political, social, and commercial heart of the city. Accompanied by an experienced licensed guide, guests will walk through the historic grounds where philosophers such as Socrates once taught and where democracy first developed. Visitors will discover remarkable monuments including the Temple of Hephaestus, one of the best-preserved ancient temples in Greece, the Stoa of Attalos, and the remains of ancient marketplaces, courts, and public gathering spaces.
