For this private tour, your driver and personal tour guide will pick you up from your hotel or cruise ship port in Athens. Olympia is a small town in the Peloponnese that has been home to the Olympic games for over 3,000 years. It was here where a small area of land was designated for the games and other rites. In this tour, you get to visit the site where they were held, an ancient stadium called the "Olympieion". You can also see ruins of temples, and shrines on the site, such as Temple of Zeus, studio of Phidias and many more. Olympia is a sanctuary dedicated to the Greek god Zeus. It was founded in 6th Century BC by King Olympos and his son, Iphitus. The sanctuary was built on the site of an older temple and it still stands today. The temple is made of white marble and it has been preserved for centuries through restoration work. In the end of tour, you'll be taken back to your hotel in Athens. The total duration of the tour will be 12 hours from pick up to drop off.
