The gorge of Agia Irini, one of the most beautiful gorges of Crete, is located at the west part of the White Mountains and it is declared as a Refuge of Wildlife. The gorge is the habitat of rare mammals, like the wild Cretan goat (Kri-kri or Capra aegagrus cretica) and birds, like the Cretan vulture and the golden eagle.
