About Spetses
The Spetses, the aristocratic island of the Argosaronic Gulf, with its great maritime tradition, its significant history and its unique culture, offers holidays throughout the year.
The island of aromas owes its current name to the Venetians who named it Isola di Spezzie, meaning a myrtle island, due to the many aromatic plants it has. In ancient times the island was called Pityousa, meaning pine-covered.
The blessed homeland of Bouboulina, Spetses, has to show a brilliant historical path. The island's contribution to the Greek Revolution was very valuable and decisive.
The economic prosperity that the island experienced in the 17th to 19th centuries is reflected in the captains' mansions, which with their unique architecture have marked the city's physiognomy and are unique ornaments.
Spetses are located at the southernmost tip of the Saronic Gulf and at the entrance of the Argolic. It is surrounded by the small, picturesque islets: Spetsopoula, Mikro Bourboulo and Agios Ioannis.
Due to their close distance from Athens, from which they are just two hours away, and their regular connection to the port of Piraeus, they are one of the most popular tourist destinations for Greeks and foreign visitors.
The island's tourist infrastructure satisfies even the most demanding visitor. In Spetses, hotels of all categories and rented rooms with all amenities operate. In the taverns of the island, you will try exquisite recipes, while for your night entertainment, bars with Greek and foreign music operate.
