Karlovasi is one of the largest towns on Samos Island, located in the northwestern part of the island. It is an important administrative, commercial, and educational center, also hosting university facilities.

The town is built amphitheatrically overlooking the sea and combines old neoclassical buildings with modern neighborhoods. It has a port, a market, and active local life, while still preserving elements of traditional character.
