About Psara

The Psara Islands are a small island in the northeastern Aegean, whose name is written in golden letters in the book of modern Greek history, as its contribution to the Revolution of 1821 was decisive.
They are located in the northwestern part of Chios, at a distance of 44 nautical miles from its port, with which they are connected by daily sailings. However, the closest port to the island is Lemnos of Chios, where the distance to Psara is reduced to 17 nautical miles.
The Psara Islands have an area of 42 square kilometers. The terrain of the island is barren in most of its parts, while there are also a few flat areas.
The only settlement on the island is built amphitheatrically around the historic port of the island. The architectural structure of the entire settlement follows the Aegean tradition. Thus, the houses are - for the most part - two-story with tile roofing and whitewashed.
Walking through the streets of Psara, one feels the uniqueness of the place. The beautiful images you see and especially the kind-hearted residents, descendants of the heroes of the Revolution of '21, who speak with pride and emotion about the struggles of their ancestors and the hardships that the island has endured, make you feel that you are in the heart of Greece...
During your tour of Psara, you will see the house of the burly Constantine Kanaris.
Also, it is worth visiting the monastery of the Dormition of the Mother of God, which is located at the northern tip of the island and was founded in the 17th century, when the island experienced great economic prosperity. In the monastery's library, rare manuscripts and liturgical books are preserved, printed in Venice and Moscow.

The Psara Islands are a magnet for many visitors due to their beautiful beaches. It is impressive that the island has beaches of different types that cater to all tastes. You will find large sandy beaches, pebbly coves, enclosed bays, and secluded little coves.
One of the closest beaches to the city is the Catsouni, located in the eastern part of the settlement and attracting the largest tourist traffic. It has a sandy beach and shallow waters. Here, the annual Beach Volley tournament is organized every summer. Next to the beach is the bay of Saint Kyriaki, where you can enjoy your bath.
On the southern side of the settlement, between the peninsula of Black Ridge and Saint Nicholas, we find the pebbly beach of Lower Galos.
One of the most beautiful beaches of the island is the Lazaretta. It is located on the southern side of the island and is sandy with shallow waters.
One of the largest beaches of the island is the Lakkas. It is located on the western side of the island. Close to the beach are the islets of Nisopoula and Ai Nikolaki. A small peninsula separates Lakkas from the beach of Archontiki. It is a beautiful beach that combines sand and pebbles. About 100 meters from the coast is the islet of Daskaleio.
In the bay of the port of Psara is the beach of Lemnos. It is a beautiful pebbly beach that is 4 km from the city.
The Psara Islands are ideal for quiet vacations. They are the perfect place for a relaxing holiday for those who want to detox from the intense rhythms and stress of the big city.
