About Fourni

The Furni are a complex of three small islands, Furni, Thymaina and Agios Minas, located between Ikaria and Samos. The largest of the three, Furni, which has also given its name to the small complex, is the ideal retreat for those who have grown tired of the cosmopolitan tourist resorts and crowded beaches and wish to spend a few days in a peaceful, serene and beautiful place.
The island has an area of 40 km² and has approximately 1,000 permanent residents.
It is 11 nautical miles from the Agios Kyrikos of Ikaria, with which it is connected daily by ferry.
The village of Furni spreads around the picturesque harbor of the island. A walk through its narrow streets will transport you to past times.
The old, well-preserved houses with traditional architecture and small flower-filled courtyards charm with their simplicity. A scene taken from the black-and-white Greek films comes alive before your eyes as you walk through the square with the giant plane trees. There, you will find the traditional cafes where the locals gather and exchange news. If you feel like chatting, sit down, have a coffee and in a few minutes you will have become part of the friendly locals who are happy to talk about their place.
A characteristic of Furni is that there are no cars on the island. So, wear your most comfortable shoes and walk from one end of the island to the other. Breathe in the fresh air and improve your physical condition...
Swimmers will have the opportunity to enjoy their bath in the virgin beaches of the island. The many coves, closed in the arms of the rocks or the green nature, give the impression of a private beach. But also the rocky coasts with sand or pebbles and their transparent waters, which attract the island's summer visitors.
The most popular beach of Furni is Chrysohalitia. Its calm cove and its beautiful sandy beach attract the largest tourist traffic. Other beaches worth visiting are Petrokopi, where you will also see the ruins of the ancient quarry, Psili Ammos, Kassidi, Kalamos, Kampi and Vlychada.
By boat, you will visit the other islands of the complex, Thymiana with its few residents and its picturesque fishing harbor, as well as the uninhabited island of Agios Minas, to the east of Furni with its beautiful coasts.
Furni are known as fishing grounds. It is no coincidence that this small island has one of the most notable fishing fleets in the Northeastern Aegean. Moreover, most of the island's residents are fishermen.
The tourist infrastructure on the island is still in its infancy. In Furni, there are rented rooms and picturesque taverns. For your evening entertainment, suffice it to sit in the friendly conversations with the locals in the taverns and cafes and in impromptu traditional celebrations. And don't forget. Here, you came to rest and relax...
